What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of politics? Chances are it’s nothing good. We’ll admit, politicians definitely don’t have the best reputation, but in Miami Lakes, the mayor defies the stereotype! Mayor Manny Cid is a 27-year resident of Miami Lakes and has truly changed the game of politics. We stopped by to ask him a few questions and learn more about what he is doing to serve our community.
Mayor Manny is one of the youngest mayors the town of Miami Lakes has seen, and that is one of the many reasons citizens voted him in. His new ideas and innovation as well as his dedication and commit to Miami Lakes as a whole is what every town needs. Some of his successful initiatives include: live webcasting of town council meetings, tequesta indian artifacts display (madden’s hammock), e-library pilot program, first city in florida to accept and play pre-recorded video public comments during municipal meetings, elimination of alarm registration fees, online lost and found pets portal, brought millions of dollars’ worth of infrastructure projects while reforming the county’s road impact fee process, pushed for a change in the county’s half-cent sales tax ordinance that saved miami lakes taxpayers $75,000 on a yearly basis, anti-human trafficking ordinance, and became the first municipality in the nation to accept live remote public comments from anywhere in the world.
I think we can all agree that those are no small feats… Mr. Cid really believes in what he does and sees local politics as a long term career. He loves that he can still follow his passion in politics while simultaneously maintaining a work/life balance. He can implement changes in society and still attend his children’s sporting or school events and be there for the important things which is something not all politicians can do.
Mayor Manny is a trailblazer in the field of politics. Not only is he changing the game with his transparency, but with his availability. I don’t know many politicians that would give their personal phone number out willingly to everyone, but Manny Cid does. He’ll be the first to admit that this isn’t easy, he receives a lot of phone calls and texts as you can imagine, but he believes that this line of open communication between the people is necessary to perform his job properly and to the best of his ability. If there is an issue or a concern, all you have to do is reach out and be relieved that your problems will be solved. This is just another great reason to live in Miami Lakes!
